About Stoner
A completely new world opened up to me. I saw how beautiful writing can be. Once I picked up “Stoner”, I couldn’t put it down, he made every word flow into the next. Stoner is the recollection of the events of a common average man. It is a story that most can relate to in some fashion. Stoner does not go from rags to riches or changed the world. Once you finish the book, you realize the simple joys that Stoner enjoyed, it opens up a perspective about how there's more to humans than the surface, it makes you think about that cashier or server, it makes you wonder about the common life. The book sheds light upon the struggles of a mediocre man. It is written in a way where a mundane existence still has a significant meaning. It shows the beautiful nature of life, not discerning between the type of life, but the meaning of just living. We all write our own stories, if there is meaning in Stoner’s mundane and mediocre life, then why can’t we appreciate how we live as well? It doesn’t have to be special because in a way it doesn’t have to be.
