Can't hurt me by David Goggins
🚀 The Book in 3 Sentences
Cooke Jar concept: it’s an imaginary jar where you store all your achievements big or small, so when your struggling, you reach into that reserve of past victories. Things that seem easy are often hard depending on where you are in life, like talking to that one girl on the bus or busting your ass on a run. Shit that proves you are a HARD MF, as Goggins would say
40% rule: Whenever you are just about to quit, remember that you still have 60% left in the tank. You can’t get to this 60% immediately but work towards it. That means you don’t quit when you are on the last rep, instead, you do a drop set and keep repping it or it can mean pushing for that extra hour of study when you don’t want to. It’s a philosophy for strong individuals, but 5% at a time, until you have full access to 100% of your potential.
Tracking your time is something I took away on my own, but with extreme discipline, you can have anything. I thought I would not get time for family in the future, but if you wake up at 5 am get two extra hours of work in, and think of creative ways to solve problems rather than hiding behind, I want to spend quality time with my family. It’s possible to have a healthy lifestyle, but the catch is we have to start now, discipline is critical.
🎨 Impressions
Left a really strong impression on me, especially towards the end, when he was describing a state of just pure joy because he gave it everything he had. Just like Gandhi, says there is prayer and service, but pure work too can lead to salvation probably not. But I feel that sort of suffering brings you closer to God, and it should be done that way. I’ll my life in the fashion, where I just try hard in everything I can, to become the best possible version of myself.
