November 2nd 2024 : Physics Person vs Math person
I noticed that I really liked learning Math for no reason. I'm not particularly good at it. I just know that I am very happy with the work I have done when the concepts and problems make sense to me, when I can see the problem in my head. I can see myself looking at the graph and finding the places where the slope is 0, it all just makes sense in my head. You can see how using the Riemann Sum, how we approach the idea for the integral function as we use smaller and smaller rectangles to evaluate the area under a curve.
[It's basically saying the area under curve the function from a to b is and infinite amount of really small rectangles added together.
I also noticed that things didn't click as fast with physics as it did with math, when I did the problems I was just plugging it into the equation and getting something, I didn't understand it the first time, and I just ignored it and moved on. My friend was the opposite he was really good at physics (essentially applied math) but not that great at Mathematics. I decided to make a theory on my own of two types of engineers, the ones that can do physics and the ones that do math.
I started caring less about physics and just got better at math, thinking I'll just never understand physics like I understand math. then I realized I did the same thing before in high school, between Math and English, in fact many kids also believed in the same thing. Either you were good at math or good at english. I happened to be good at math, so I had really bad grades in English in grade 10 and 11, and just silently gave up on English. I just thought I'd pass grade 12 then I'd never worry about it again. For no particular reason I really wanted to have really high grades in grade 12 so I decided to hustle English, I started reading books and actually decided to pay attention in class, I still didn't do as well as I hoped, but here I am writing a blog. So I think the moral of the story is to not put yourself in a box where you can be a physics person or math person, instead as a person who can do whatever they want, because I think you can.
